Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a drug-free, non-invasive electrotherapy treatment used to support pain management.
During the treatment, low-voltage electrical impulses are delivered through electrodes placed on the skin.
TENS may reduce pain through two main mechanisms:
- influencing pain signals through nerve stimulation based on the gate control theory,
- supporting the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain-relieving substances.
TENS may be used as supportive therapy for:
- chronic lower back pain,
- shoulder pain,
- headaches,
- joint-related discomfort,
- post-operative pain,
- muscle and nerve-related injuries,
- supporting muscle activation and nerve function recovery.
